The 7th One Retinoblastoma World Conference took place October 15 – 17, 2024. We were delighted to welcome 175 medical professionals, retinoblastoma survivors, young patients, family members, and scientists in-person, and many more online for three days of programming, community and collaboration in the heart of the Pacific.
One Rb World 2024 was hosted by World Eye Cancer Hope USA, organized together with Jesse Berry MD, Director of Ocular Oncology & Retinoblastoma at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles; Dr. Sandra Staffieri, Retinoblastoma Care Coordinator at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, Australia; and Maura Di Nicola MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.

The Program
Our One Rb World program took place over three days, with a virtual option so our global community could join even if travel to Hawaii was not possible. Hawaii Standard Time is GMT/UTC -10.
As always, we discussed aspects of early detection and diagnosis, medical care, psychosocial supports, and survivorship. Our 2024 program particularly focused on key challenges and solutions for families, survivors, and clinicians in the Pacific region, and in other remote and rural communities and small populations.
Child Life Program
One Rb World welcomes all patients, survivors, and family members! We were delighted to provide a full program of child life activities on 15, 16 and 17 October for children diagnosed with retinoblastoma, their siblings, and children of adult survivors.
The program was led by Certified Child Life Specialist Morgan Livingstone, a dedicated member of the WE C Hope team, together with child life leaders from the Pacific. As well as free play for all ages, planned activities helped children explore, understand, and live well with their individual experiences of eye cancer.
Tickets and Registration
We are proud to offer a low registration rate for all family and survivor tickets, and a reduced rare for all attendees from World Bank-classified Low Income and Low-Mid Income Countries.
The child life program is free of charge, but full details for every child must be registered on a family/survivor ticket.
In-person registration closed September 10. Virtual registration closed October 13. Our community joined from home, work, other conferences, and on the move worldwide, All registered participants have early access to video playback after the conference.
Our Conference Hotel
One Rb World took place at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, a calm oasis in the bustling heart of Waikiki. Situated one block from the famous beach, it is walking distance from some of the area’s best shopping, dining, and attractions.
The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, which stands at the former entrance to the ‘Ainahau Estate, once home to Hawaii’s beloved Princess Victoria Kaiulani – the last royal heir who is still revered throughout the islands. Our One Rb World community enjoyed a royal Hawaiian welcome and rejuvinating stay!

Travel Facts
Hawaii is the most southerly state within the United States of America, and also the world’s most remote archipelago (chain of islands). It is located on the Tropic of Cancer in the mid-Pacific Ocean, 2,400 miles from the continental USA (the nearest landmass), about 6 hours flight from the west coast. About One Retinoblastoma World
One Retinoblastoma World is a global network with the bold idea that all children with retinoblastoma and survivors can have equal opportunity to access optimal care. When diagnosed early and treated effectively, childhood eye cancer is curable. No child should die, or suffer avoidable blindness because of it.
Many challenges impede scientific research needed to develop evidence based care, but One Retinoblastoma World is breaking down those obstacles.
The One Rb World Conference gathers together eye and cancer specialists, researchers, parents, and survivors from around the world to pursue the best possible retinoblastoma care for all children and throughout life. Collaborative research, clinical care and family support benefitting the majority of children and survivors can only be developed through inclusive meetings with a real-world focus.
The 2021 conference took place virtually due to the ongoing pandemic, building on the momentum from Canada’s 2020 virtual event and our successful 2017 live stream from Washington D.C..
