Through Our Eyes – RAE of Hope
Be inspired by our RAE of Hope – Raising Awareness and Empowerment as we shine the light on childhood eye cancer.
Since 2013, the Reid Family has dedicated September – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, to raising awareness of retinoblastoma, helping children, adult survivors and their families share their experience of retinoblastoma and how it has shaped their lives.
Thomas Reid is a bilateral retinoblastoma survivor and a Director of WE C Hope USA. As a result of radiation when he was a child, he experienced a second cancer that led to the loss of his right eye and total blindness.
Before this, Thomas and his wife Marlett watched as their first born child, Riana, was diagnosed with unilateral retinoblastoma and also lost an eye.
For the past four years, the entire Reid family, which includes their youngest daughter Raven, work together to highlight and share the stories of others impacted by this childhood cancer. This effort was formerly known as PennyPushUps; based on the walk a thon example where a person demonstrates their own commitment and asks others to support the effort. Donors contributed for every completed push-up through the month. Daily videos shared the stories of the various people impacted by this childhood cancer: children, parents, adult survivors and more.
Gone are the push-ups, but the true value remains – the experiences.
Join us as we share stories of those impacted by retinoblastoma… Raising Awareness and Empowerment. Shining a light on a rare childhood cancer!
